The team
These people make our basement go round...
Mike Burgess
Mike is the reason the BCN Studio exists. He is our daddy. A sprite-like renaissance man, Mike has an uncanny ability to bring the right people together and just let things happen. Incredibly annoying really.

In 2017 he co-founded the Watch This Space improv comedy group in Barcelona, with the goal of creating a weekly stage space for new improvisers to play and gain confidence. Again, an annoying do-gooder.

In his previous UK life he acted, wrote and sang for over 10 years in dozens of major musicals, plays, pantomines, a WhoDunnit murder mystery company, and the Singout Bristol Choir.

To complete his annoying perfection, Mike is also a renowned expert on gardening and animals, is highly sought-after for his know-how in the Catalonian countryside and was a radio presenter for a weekly Bristol wildlife program for years.

Annie O´Callaghan
Annie is overqualified for us. At the Studio, she oversees Artistic Direction and spends 50% of the time enjoying the creative process and the other 50% of the time getting into a total flap bringing up important things we all forgot to think about, which is quite entertaining and rewarding to experience.
Our Annie has been fortunate to wear many hats in the theatre industry throughout her career and has seen firsthand the transformative power of theatre on personal well-being, in education, and as a tool for positive social change.

Her journey began in Venezuela, where she worked with Teatro UCAB, Fundación Medatia, and Producciones Palo de Agua. She also had the incredible opportunity to tour internationally with AGOTeatro. She continued to hone her craft through studies with Teatro de los Sentidos in Barcelona (Spain). She is a Board Member of Morongo Gateway Lively Arts (USA), a Producer at Teatre Blau (Germany - Mallorca), and an associate of The Actor's Space (Catalunya), where she has continued to grow and develop her skills.

Here in Barcelona, she regularly works with Jocular Theatre, performs with Watch This Space improv, has also collaborated with Espai Debut and Sala Beckett, IPA Productions, Escapade Theater, Barcelona Improv Group, and Barcelona Improv Festival. In 2020, she became a content creator, writer, and researcher for the RoundGlass Learning Collective (India and the USA), developing courses, articles, and workshops on art, education, and well-being. She is currently completing a Master's degree in Drama Therapy.

In 2019, she founded Teatro del Sótano, a non-profit association dedicated to the research and development of socially aware theatre expression through devising and collective creation. In 2024, she joined Adam Jacques in launching Camp Fire Theatre, a new and innovative Theater in Education Company in Barcelona.
Brielle Jobe
Brielle is the little tech engine that could. At the Studio, she can generally be found up a ladder, drawing a schematic or making our tech booth a more effective and adorable place with her presence.
Originally from the United States, Brielle finds her real home onstage as for most of her life has been spent as an actor, playwright, improviser, and now, comedian. She’s studied acting, improv, and theatre for over a decade, graduating from a three year advanced theatre studies program in 2017 and earning her bachelor’s degree in Musical Theatre Performance from Catawba College in 2021.
Additionally, she works now as an accent/dialect coach and a collaboration and creativity consultant - teaching others the skills of the theatre and how they can be used every day.

Zak Knudsen
Zak Knudsen (a.k.a. Chadbert Bunchweth) is an improvisational comedian.

He's also a sort of ginger beating heart at the core of how we put on quality productions, designing and installing our whole tech setup alongside Brielle, running sound, lights, audio during shows and being the voice of the Studio over the loudspeaker that builds excitement and gets bums back in seats at the right time. He also makes sure our graphic design doesn't suck and that we treat stand-ups well.

Zak started his comedy career in 2014 when he joined the cast of People’s Liberation Improv in Hong Kong. In 2022 he became a founding cast member and MC at Typical Adult Behavior, and joined as an MC and co-organizer of Watch This Space in Barcelona.
Adrian Randle
Adrian is most at home in the Studio with a camera in his hand or when publishing well-crafted words online. He's also essentially renovated the whole space alongside Mike and could likely now be certified as a builder.

Adrian began acting at the age of 14, making his stage debut at London's Millennium Dome. This led him into a career in theatre and television as well as live presenting and voice over work. He has been on numerous theatre tours around the United Kingdom and across Europe.

In 2011 he moved to Spain, where he has worked with several theatre companies and appeared in a number of television productions. In 2023 he joined the Watch This Space Improv team.

Angela Ruiter
Angela is Mike's basement wife. She spends her Studio time herding kittens - meaning, she helps creative types focus and get things done without losing our minds or the fun.
She also does this with hippie types on agriculture projects since packing in her former life conceiving and managing global products. She is apocalypse ready and a secret anarchist.

Angela hails from Chicago but has lived in Barcelona since 2007, dabbled in improv, storytelling and dramatic theatre, and generally always thinks she's on stage.
Samuel Allan
Samuel is the delightful guy around the Studio who just gets things done that need to get done. If he's around and you say out loud, 'Oh, it'd be great if that sofa were somewhere else,' the sofa gets moved. If you need someone to go hassle people in the streets in multiple languages to come see a show, he's out there being slightly creepy, yet highly effective.

After falling in love with being on stage when he was just a boy growing up in Cyprus, Samuel went on to find any acting opportunity he could on the island. He then left to study a performance degree at a university in the south of England, before winding up in sunny Catalonia.

He’s been in all kinds of theatre productions, films, series and adverts and has even dabbled in stand-up comedy. He's a regular in our resident Watch This Space improv group.

Samuel is excited to now lend his creative skills and performance experience to helping to make The BCN Studio an entertaining, fun and inclusive space for anyone who walks through its door.
