Building the space and building the excitement

This week saw the beginning of phase two of the renovation with the professional builders arriving. Shah and his team have been hard at work damp-proofing and sound-proofing the space to ensure that our venue will be comfortable for the long term.

They are also installing a state of the art lighting rig that will allow for complete versatility when it comes to different staging set-ups, meaning that no matter where the action is, it will be lit! This is one of the many factors that has been at the heart of the planning process, allowing for more options for the different types of show we want host and create at The BCN Studio. Want to perform a show in the round? We can do it! Want a thrust staging set-up? We can do it! Want to have a wider stage and shallower audience space? We can do it!

We want our space to expand creativity, not limit it. So by having a rig that covers the entire ceiling, we can move the lights as well as the stage into any configuration that is required.

Mike is still working away on the manual labour front too, by ripping out the current bathroom to make room for a bigger, more comfortable one that will also allow us to increase our audience capacity.

We've also had one of our strategy meeting to work on what we want to achieve in the next few weeks, planning our community outreach meeting and our first events.

The whole team is so excited to share more details but at the moment, we need to keep our feet on the ground as we gear up for the next stage of the renovations, which we hope we can start very soon.
